Hi there,
I recently adopt a 8 months old kitten from one of the local rescue shelter. Its quite amazing the whole process. Going there with the mind of getting a second dog as a pet for my guidedog, but coming home with a kitten. The dog and the kitten just click the very first second they meet each other. Infact, i think the kitten find us, not we go looking for it. :)
I have some questions, like all of the new cats owner do i guess.
I'm looking for a litterbox that is relatively easy to clean the mess and minimum smell. She's quite okay using the open top clasic plustic littertray at the moment.. However, looking for something perhaps, um, more hyginic?
I know there was a topic on here a couple of years ago regarding litterboxes however, i realize tht there're some new streem of products in the market. e.g. the authomatic clean litterbox such as the scoopfree litterbox and the litter robot... They are very expendsive, in the range of $200+ i believe.
I'm also interested in the Omega role'n box... Anyone have use this in the recent years?
If not, anything that you can perhaps suggest or give me some light in this matter?

Thanks

I have a cat genie, it did cost about $250 but it is worth it in the long run because i don't have to by litter to fill it up with but every now and then. You can get the litter and soap online but like I said the over all cost of it all is cheeper and it pays for itself very quickly.

I also have used the rollin littler box and I think it is messy. When you role it, the litter will spill out a small bit on the part where the lid and the bottom are conectted . It works well but uses a lot of litter to work. It also is much smaller inside than the outside makes it seem.

The Cat Genie seems like a good idea until you have problems with the unit. When that happens you're pretty much screwed since their tech support is extremely hard to get a hold of, so much so in fact that they have an F on the Better Business Bureau's ratings. I know because I was considering saving up for a self-cleaning litter box for Max and I did a lot of research on the different models I was considering. The one I was most impressed with overall based on how few problems most users seemed to be having with it was the Litter Robot. You just have to remember to empty the waste bin every few days.

Do not ever ever EVER get littler that's main component is wheat.. It STINKS!

We have an old-fashioned litter box and use a brand that smells like pine. It masks the smell quite well and is fairly easy to clean.

I know they say you shouldn't use scented litter but I did nearly all the time and Max didn't seem to mind.

Brian, i do not think you know what your talking about because there is no bin on a cat geannie to dump out. It is flushed through a hose and in to the sueidge.

There is on the Litter Robot, which is the one I was talking about when I said empty the waste bin. I wasn't talking about the Cat Genie there. I wouldn't have gotten the Cat Genie because of how many problems users seemed to have with the unit itself and the difficulty in getting a hold of their tec support. Like I said that company had an F with the Better Business Bureau last time I checked which wasn't long ago. And anyway if their tech supportis so busy that people can't get a hold them even after many repeated calls and Emails then there must be a fairly serious problem. And they're not being entirely truthful when they say you'll never have to replace the absorbant capsules because inevitably some get washed out with each flush so you will have to replace them sooner or later. So I do in fact know what I'm talking about. As much as I dislike the chore I'll stick to cleaning Joan Jet's litter box manually once i bring her home rather than trust the job to something that may or may not work.
